Two years ago I received a Kindle eReader for Mother's Day. I didn't ask for one and didn't think that I wanted on, but I screamed with excitement and scared my kids a little! I really did not anticipate loving it as much as I do! Instead of having a stack of books by my bedside or in my suitcase on holidays, I now have a neat and tidy little eReader that holds hundreds of books. What do I like most about it? Probably the fact that I can increase the font size! No reading glasses needed here! It is also light and my wrists and arms do not fall asleep reading large books!
Recently Neil Campbell School purchased 3 Sony wifi eReaders. We choose Sony because Kindle is not supported by the Canadian public libraries. We also purchased the Kobo, but in the end we decided on the Sony.
The students are LOVING these eReaders. The MYRCA books are readily available to borrow from the public library for free!! This means I no longer have to purchase extra copies of the popular books, only to be stuck with them the following year!
The students have become really self-sufficient and can download books from the library on their own now. These eReaders are wifi, which means that they can do this from the comfort of their homes or the couch in the library! They particularily enjoy the stylus that comes with the machines. They can click on any word that they do not understand and it gives them the definition! Where were these when I was a kid!
Below are the instructions that they helped me type up for downloading and removing books to a Sony eReader.
